More about Helen

Helen Walsh Helen was born in the UK and grew up in Skibbereen; she studied Fine Art Sculpture in Limerick College of Art & Design, where she graduated in 1989. Soon after, she was commissioned to make two permanent, public works of Art. In 1994 she was awarded residency to Australia on grounds of distinguished talent. In Australia she worked on sets and props for TV, film and advertising. Helen moved back to West Cork where she now lives and works. Helen likes to work in both two and three dimensions. Drawing and colour are very important to her. Helen has completed a number of private commissions and has exhibited her work in galleries and sculpture gardens throughout Ireland. Her work was featured on the TG4 Arts Program ‘Imeall’ and was shown on RTE's ‘The Works as part of The Vanishing Art Exhibition, in Carton House, Maynooth, Co Kildare. Helen works mainly with metals; her work is often linear and has an ethereal quality. When her works are placed in the environment they almost become like drawings in their surroundings, enabling and enticing the viewer to look and be drawn not only to the work but through the work. Movement and balance are integral elements of her work.

Dresses

“Helen Walsh uses scale particularly well; the work is allowed to find its own voice: a definite virtue at this stage of the game”- Aidan Dunne, Art Critic, The Irish Times. Each piece is individually and uniquely made.
